The 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its 34th biweekly consultation session in Beijing on July 25, focusing on optimizing regional allocation of education and healthcare resources.

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the session.

Wang noted that since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the CPC Central Committee has made significant strides in building China into a leading country in education and advancing the Healthy China initiative, leading to historic achievements in both sectors.

He emphasized that the 20th CPC National Congress and the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee laid out key plans and tasks for expanding high-quality education and healthcare resources and promoting more balanced regional development. 

Wang called on CPPCC members to focus on key and challenging issues in areas such as meeting the public's growing demand for high-quality and diversified education, and to strengthen forward-looking, solution-oriented research.

He also urged CPPCC members to provide targeted, practical policy recommendations to support the development of the healthcare sector and better safeguard public health. CPPCC members were encouraged to actively participate in "serving the people" activities to help deliver more quality education and healthcare services to the people.

Ten members of the CPPCC National Committee and one expert spoke at the session, stressing the need to improve mechanisms for coordinating basic resources in response to demographic changes and to increase the supply of high-quality education and healthcare resources. They also called for a more balanced regional distribution of public resources to ensure equitable access to basic public services and support regional development.

The speakers also highlighted the importance of guiding grassroots institutions in adopting technological innovations such as remote education and telemedicine, sharing quality education resources, and enhancing primary-level healthcare services to ensure the benefits of development are shared in a more inclusive and equitable manner.

CPPCC National Committee vice-chairpersons Hu Chunhua, Shen Yueyue, Wang Yong, Ho Hau Wah, Chen Wu, Wang Dongfeng, Jiang Xinzhi, Zhu Yongxin and Yang Zhen attended the meeting. Senior officials from the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Education, and the National Health Commission provided briefings and engaged in discussions with CPPCC members.
